Top 10 Things You Can Do Today To Leave Your Legacy

1. Prepare a Will.
2. Leave a gift in your Will to ServLife.
3. Leave a specific dollar amount or percentage of the assets in your Will to ServLife.
4. Consider using assets for your legacy gifts.
5. Name ServLife as the beneficiary of your IRA or pension plan.
6. Purchase a new life insurance policy, naming ServLife as the beneficiary.
7. Name ServLife as the beneficiary of an existing life insurance policy.
8. Remember deceased loved ones with memorial gifts to ServLife.
9. Encourage family members and friends to leave legacy gifts to Servlife or their favorite charities.
10. Ask your financial advisor to discuss legacy gifts with their other clients.

How to Remember ServLife International in your Will:

When making or revising a Will, you should always obtain the assistance of an attorney. Members of ServLife International’s office will be pleased to work with you and your attorney to design an estate plan tailored to your wishes.

In addition to cash and securities, bequests to ServLife International may include real estate, works of art, or patent rights. All outright bequests to ServLife International are exempt from federal estate taxes, and there is no limitation on the size of the gift. ServLife International’s Federal Tax ID Number is: 76-0363452.

The following are suggested forms for making various types of bequests:

Outright Bequest in a Will or in a Trust

Specific dollar amount: “I bequeath the sum of $_____ to the SERVLIFE INTERNATIONAL, P.O. Box 20596, Indianapolis, IN 46220 to be used or disposed of as its Board of Directors in its sole discretion deems appropriate.”

Specific property (personal property): “I bequeath to SERVLIFE INTERNATIONAL, P.O. Box 20596, Indianapolis, IN 46220 to be used or disposed of as its Board of Directors in its sole discretion deems appropriate.”

Specific property (real estate): “I devise all of my right, title, and interest in and to the real estate located at to SERVLIFE INTERNATIONAL, P.O. Box 20596, Indianapolis, IN 46220 to be used or disposed of as its Board of Directors in its sole discretion deems appropriate.”

Percentage of your estate: “I devise and bequeath (all/or _____%) of the remainder of my property to the SERVLIFE INTERNATIONAL, P.O. Box 20596, Indianapolis, IN 46220 to be used or disposed of as its Board of Directors in its sole discretion deems appropriate.”

Conditional Bequest in a Will

Insert conditional language in one or more of the above provisions.

For example: “If my husband/wife does not survive me, I bequeath the sum of $_____to the SERVLIFE INTERNATIONAL, P.O. Box 20596, Indianapolis, IN 46220 to be used or disposed of as its Board of Directors in its sole discretion deems appropriate.”

If the gift to ServLife International is for a purpose other than ServLife International’s unrestricted use, insert the restriction in place of the words “to be used or disposed of as its Board of Directors in its sole discretion deems appropriate.”

For example:

“I bequeath the sum of $_____ to the SERVLIFE INTERNATIONAL, P.O. Box 20596, Indianapolis, IN 46220 for the following use and purpose: .”

In the event a gift is subject to a restriction, we suggest including one of the following provisions:

“However, I impose no legal or equitable obligation in this regard.” or “If in the judgment of the Board of Directors of the ServLife International, it becomes impossible to accomplish the purposes of this gift, the income or principal may be used for such related purposes and in such manner as determined by its Board of Directors.”
