At The Crossing Church in Costa Mesa, Jesus’ heart for the marginalized shines through. Tim Celek pastors a congregation of believers that have responsive hearts for the call to love “the least of these,” and they’re acting on that call. ServLife is fortunate to have the support and partnership of The Crossing, who sponsor many of the children in ServLife’s India orphanage. In January, The Crossing sent a team to connect with those they serve in India.
Georgie Schwartz, part of the Child Sponsorship Team at The Crossing, and her family support three children with ServLife India. For her, like many at The Crossing, child sponsorship has been a rich lesson in Kingdom values. “We realize more and more that we live in a bubble of self,” she shares. “Sponsoring a child is a huge way to help. To know that your (sponsored) child is going to make a difference in their family for generations to come is miraculous!” Georgie attended the January trip to India and was able to connect with her sponsored children. Members of The Crossing put on a 2-day Bible school for the children based on the theme “You are a Masterpiece.”
“We gave each child a poster board in the shape of a puzzle piece. We then had them go through lots of magazine pictures, cut out whatever they liked, then paste it onto their puzzle piece. We shared what God says about each of them in the Bible. Each of us has been given different gifts and personalities. The next day, we had the children figure out where all the puzzle pieces went. Once they finished they realized their individual puzzle pieces turned into a body with hands lifted up. They learned, not only are we God’s ‘Masterpieces’, but we are also One in Christ. When we were all done, it was really neat to see all the kids looking and commenting on each other’s different puzzle pieces. The team was completely blessed to be a part of this scene,” Georgie says.
In March, ServLife Executive Director Adam Nevins had the opportunity to travel to The Crossing and share how God is working in India and Nepal, using the gifts and sacrificial giving of others to carry out life transformation in impoverished areas.
“Adam’s visit confirmed the message of giving,” Georgie says. “It encouraged people to give, but also to go the extra mile and sponsor a child. Sponsorships make a difference in a child’s mind, heart and soul.”
“For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so that we can do the good things he planned for us long ago.”
Ephesians 2:10
