“I am a follower of Jesus Christ. I have deep respect for God and am very grateful for getting the loan to sell fruits and vegetables. It has helped me in paying the school fees of my three children. I am also grateful for ServLife’s support for the women in my village.” Says Edith Santos. Edith is 32 year old and is from a poor village in South Sudan called Kajo Keji. She went to school and completed senior school in 1986. In 1987 she fell very sick and she was flown for treatment to the capital of Sudan, Khartoum. She got married in 1990 and has 3 children. She traveled to attend her father’s funeral in Adjumani Refugee camp Uganda. She fell sick in the camp while for her father’s funeral and came for treatment to Kampala expecting the husband to join them but he failed to come. She was left abandoned and settled in a refugee camp. In 2001, while in the Kiryandongo camp in Uganda, she learned of ServLife and she was among the first group that registered. She was elected as the women leader by the Kiryandongo woman’s group of 20 ladies. Edith has exceptional leadership qualities that keep the group working hard. The success of Kiryandongo women group project has been because of her good leadership and encouragement she gave to the women’s group.
