Lazarus Thulung joins the ServLife team with extensive experience as a campus outreach minister, church planter and teacher. He is also the author of three books and is a third generation Christian, a rare phenomenon in Nepal. Like his grandfather who was one of the first to preach the gospel in eastern Nepal, Thulung’s vision is to train Nepalis for ministry and start churches throughout greater Nepal. He will administrate ServLife’s newest training center in Kathmandu upon its opening in January 2007. There, he will mentor students enrolled for six months of training.
Thulung, 33, was born in the Nepalese village of Deupuje, Solukhumbu, a district located at the base of Mount Everest. He grew up among the Rai and Sherpa people and graduated in 1997 from Tribhuwan Univerity with a degree in political science. He completed a Masters in Divinity from ISOT Asia in 2002. Thulung is married to Martha and the couple has two children, Arpan, 9, and Hyssop, 5.
“My vision in working with ServLife is to plant 150 new churches, train 600 young leaders and disciple more than a million Nepali Christians through my writing efforts by the year 2016,” Thulung says. “I’ve been blessed with the model of parents and grandparents who remained faithful to Jesus Christ and His work in the world. I intend to pass His love and hope onto this and future generations. I am so excited to join ServLife’s expansion in Nepal and see the gospel of Jesus Christ advance.”
