As Christianity in Nepal continues to grow, the necessity for strong, educated leadership grows alongside it. Last year, ServLife’s training center in Kathmandu became a temporary home for 14 dedicated students who invested three months of intense work to deepen their understanding of the Bible and ministry.
These leaders came from diverse backgrounds, representing the widespread reach of our ministry. Nepal is comprised of 77 districts, and our network has now successfully planted churches in over 70 of these regions. As new communities of believers form in these districts, the demand for equipped pastors becomes critical.
Meeting the Need for Leadership
The primary driver for this training is the sheer number of people turning to Christ. Nepal Director Bekharaj explains that as people experience the life-changing power of Jesus, the local church grows, creating an urgent need for leaders who can guide these new believers.
“So this year we have 14 students from different parts of Nepal, and they stay with us three months. And within three months, you know, they learn various subjects from the Bible from the different pastors and leaders”.
Bekharaj notes that as people witness miracles and transformation in their neighbors’ lives, they are drawn to the faith.
“So many people are coming to the Lord when they hear the Gospel. So when they heard about Jesus and when they believe in Jesus, we heard so many testimonies that God really works in their lives in amazing ways, you know, and their life is transformed. So people have a faith, they have a hope that Jesus can really change their life and Jesus is the true God. So we see that God is working in our country, God is blessing our people, and so they are really open for the Gospel. So the Church has been growing”.
A Foundation of Sound Doctrine
To ensure these growing churches remain healthy, the training curriculum is designed to be comprehensive. It balances deep theology with practical ministry skills, ensuring these new pastors can defend the faith and lead their congregations effectively.
“We can develop the leaders, we can train the leaders so that they can make more disciples, they can train people, they can teach people sound biblical doctrine. We cover a lot of things: we cover Christology, we cover about salvation (Soteriology), Trinity, God, Bible, man, sin, so many, you know, a lot of things. We also cover about evangelism, we cover about discipleship, we cover about mission. We also talk about leadership; they have to learn the skill of how to preach, how to teach, so we also, you know, teach them preaching, how to preach, how to prepare a sermon”.
Sent Out to Serve
The culmination of these three months is not just a graduation, but a sending out. These pastors are returning to their villages not just with knowledge, but with a fueled passion for ministry and a desire to see their own people transformed.
“We are so excited that they’re going back to their homes. Once they go back, they will teach their people, they will serve their people, and they will make more disciples so that God’s work will be expanded and so many people can come to know the Lord”.
